"Life is what you celebrate. All of it.
Even its end" Joanne Harris

Who I am...

My name is Marion Wilson. I trained with the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants in January 2015 gaining my Certificate in Funeral Celebrancy. I follow their Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. I intend to continue my Personal and Professional Development with further training to gain my Diploma in Celebrancy. I had previously been a weight loss counsellor for ten years and, before that, a teacher of Art and Design in middle schools for twenty eight years. I live, with my family, in Kidderminster, Worcestershire. I will use my skills, old and new, to create and deliver personalised ceremonies that meaningfully mourn a death and bring comfort to the living.

What I do...

A Funeral Celebrant brings together various elements to create a personal and memorable funeral that mourns a death both meaningfully and beautifully.

This End of Life Celebration is designed to commemorate a life lived and give those present an opportunity to say goodbye. The ceremony will be created after meeting with the family, respecting their views and beliefs.

The funeral may, therefore, have no mention or reference to any form of religion or it may have some religious significance and include a prayer, hymn or spiritual reading.
There is always choice.

How it happens...

I will make contact as soon as possible with the person whose details I have from the Funeral Directors. I will arrange a home visit at a convenient time to meet with family members. It is at this home visit that I learn all about the person we mourn – their early life, schooling, career, family, holidays, achievements, interests, musical taste, laughter and tears – anything and everything that made them the unique person they were.
I can contact members of the family who live further away by telephone or email for their contributions. I will ask if any one wishes to contribute to the funeral:

  • Reading a poem
  • Writing a personal tribute
  • Live music.

I am happy to suggest possible readings or music if requested.
I bring all this together to capture the essence of the person and their life that we remember. I will let the family see or hear the Eulogy before the service giving time for details to be checked and, if necessary, changed.

On the day...

I will meet the mourners at the place of the funeral and conduct the service.

After the funeral...

A bound copy of the Service and Eulogy will be presented to the mourners a few days following the service.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service

Some families may prefer to hold a memorial service at a venue and time of their choice. This ceremony would be instead of a service in the chapel at a crematorium where a simple basic cremation would take place when a few or no mourners attend.
I can create and deliver a meaningful Celebration of Life Memorial Service with tributes, poetry and music to suit.
Please contact me to discuss this option.
